Civil Engineering - At School of Engineering and Technology (JU-SET), the Department of Civil Engineering has been started up in the year 2009. It has a select band of faculty comprising of seven Ph.Ds, four pursuing Ph.D. & five M.Techs, all from pioneer institutes like IISc, Bangalore, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, NIT (K), NIT (J), VTU Belgaum, Bangalore and Mangalore University. Most of our faculties are an amalgam of rich administrative, academic, research and industry experience. Students are exposed to the state of the art Civil Engineering practices vis-a-vis Institute Industry Interaction, internships, field visits and in-house/on-site camps apart from the regular classroom teaching. The department has necessary laboratory facilities and encourages research and consultancy. The CAD lab of the department has been sufficiently equipped with latest hardware/software and hones the skills in recent versions of CYPE, STAAD-PRO,AUTOCAD, MAP3D, CIVIL3D, RASTERDESIGN, PRIMAVERA, MS Project, RIVET, GIS (Open Source) and GPS Data Manager have been offered as value added programs in pursuit of making industry ready Civil Engineers.
In tune with UN resolution on sustainability, the department has been offering innovative multi-disciplinary courses such as Green Technology and Sustainability, Disaster Mitigation, Ecology and Engineering Environment in UG program as open elective and/or mandatory courses across the disciplines. International Conferences, Expert Technical Lectures, National Workshops, Techno Fests, Seminars, Cultural Activities through Civil Engineering Association ATHARVA are the hall-mark of the department. M.Tech. in Building Science and Technology Program is a unique of its kind, offered in the country designed as a multi-disciplinary & innovative program focusing on carbon–footprint mitigation, energy efficient eco-friendly designs for sustainable buildings/habitats.
