Automobile Engineering over the years has emerged as one of the most interesting fields of engineering and technology. Inherent desire of human beings to travel safely and comfortably at high speeds has led to the inventions of compact automobiles fitted with reliable and robust engines. Fascination for higher speeds has recently culminated into flying cars. Likewise, need to preserve the environment has resulted in development of electric and solar traction vehicles. Surely, in times to come, use of modern vehicles is only going to increase with possibility of newer methods of propulsion also coming into forefront. Consequently, amidst the widening ambit of automobile engineering, the automobile engineers shall continue to have a vital role to play in transforming concepts to reality. Also, with strong link of automobile engineering with emission control and environmental safety, the automobile engineers do have challenging yet attractive tasks in hand. They consistently need to refine the design, fabricate and test the products that fulfil the environmental requirements. The B. Tech. course on automobile engineering aims at moulding young and inquisitive minds into graduates who upon acquiring engineering skills shall be knowledgeable and competent to produce automobiles of good quality.

What opportunities might it lead to?

India is now at the forefront in Automotive Technology with ranking as 6th largest Passenger Vehicle Manufacturer. We aspire to be third largest manufacturer by 2026, as per Automotive Mission Plan (AMP-2026). In coming years, Indian automotive and component industry will be required to design automotive systems and components with proper techniques and analysis. For this, we would require around 65 Million manpowers in the next 10 years. The industry offers many challenging and interesting roles to skilled professionals. Pass in PUC / 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry / Computer Science / Electronics as one of the subjects and obtained at least 60% marks (55% in case of SC/ST category) in the above subjects taken together.
