Five Days Faculty Development Program on "Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (CTEA-19)"
14 Mar 2019
School of Engineering and Technology (SET-JU), Department of Mathematics, organized a five day faculty development program on “Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (CTEA-19)” from 5 to 9 March 2019. The main objective of this workshop was to improve the computational skills, which will be helpful for the faculty members to enhance their teaching and research skill.
Day 1: Morning session
FDP started with the inaugural function in the presence of the guest of honour was Dr. Pradeep. G. Siddheshwar, F.I.M.A. (U.K.), F.N. A.Sc. Professor of Mathematics and Director, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Board, Bangalore University, Dr. Ravindra Bhandari, Vice President, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), Dr. S A Hariprasad, Director, SET and HoD's of Basic Sciences and the participants.
Afternoon session: Hands on experience on basics of R programming was given by Mr. Raghavendra N, Former ETv Researcher and presently working as a professor in Jain Vidyaniketan.
Day 2: Morning Session: The session was started by Mr. Vishal Patil, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, SET on “Advanced Excel Programming (VBA)”, where he could make participants to understand the Excel VB programming to create a small calculator for statistical calculations such as mean, variance, regression, curve fitting and so on.
Afternoon Session: In the afternoon session basics of MATLAB was taught by Dr. Kokila Ramesh, HoD, Department of Mathematics, SET. Hands on experience on the same was given with the help of basic coding in MATLAB Toolbox, specifically on assignments, vectors and Matrices.
The session was started by Mr. N Raghavendra, Former ETv Researcher, Assistant Professor, Jain Vidyaniketan PU college on R Programming, where the basics of the programming language including the software download such as R Console and R Studio was taught. Later hands on experience on R programming was given in which the assignment of values to variables, defining the vectors and matrices were discussed. Also how to import data from xls, csv, txt to R was taught.
The session was started by Prof. Vijayakumar Selvaraj, Technology Lead-Data Science Programs, i-Nurture Education Solutions who discussed simple regression models, multiple regression models and multivariate statistics. In the afternoon session hands on experience on of the same in R programming was given in detail with the existing data with the following points, extraction of data, analysing the data distribution and then applying the regression model on the same with the correlation between the data and error analysis.
On the last day, all the faculty members of the Mathematics Department presented their progress of research work. The summary of five day faculty development program was briefed by Dr. Kokila Ramesh and the program ended with the distribution of certificates to all participants.
