School of Engineering and Technology organized Faculty Interaction and Hands–On Workshop on Machine Learning Techniques – I from 8 to 11 April 2019. The resource person of the session was Prof. Ganapati Panda, FNAE, FNASc., FIET Professorial Fellow, Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, Advisor, C. V. Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The faculty interaction was aimed at motivating faculties and students for qualitative research, patent writing and good quality publication. The workshop on Machine Learning was to focus mainly on the use of machine learning techniques for image classification, pattern recognition and data science in computer applications. It also focused on mathematical techniques and enlightens the knowledge in developing many complex applications.

Prof. Ganapati Panda is currently working as a Professional Fellow at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar. He is also a Professor and Advisor at C V Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of IET, Fellow of IETE, Fellow of IE, Life Member of CSI, Life Member of ISTE and Life Member of System Society.

Day 1
Session started with the Introduction to Genetic Algorithm – Overview and Basics.  Prof. Ganapati Panda discussed the Basics of GA – Usage of Genetic algorithm for optimization - Binary Coded GA, Real coded GA – Application to Classification and Forecasting. He gave brief explanation on Population based learning. Ms. Sashmita Panda, Research Scholar, IIT Kharagpur discussed about MATLAB – Tool Introduction and Basics. She shared the knowledge on Implementation of Binary Coded GA using MATLAB.

Day 2
Prof. Ganapati Panda discussed the basics and usage of Real Coded GA, Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution – Application to Classification and Forecasting. Ms. Sashmita Panda discussed about Implementation of Real Coded GA and Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution using MATLAB.

Day 3
Prof. Ganapati Panda and Ms. Sashmita Panda discussed about Calculating Euclidean Distance for Clusters (Hierarchical and K - Means), Clustering analysis with Agglomerative Algorithm. Implementation of Clustering Analysis, Hierarchical and K – Means Clustering using MATLAB was also discussed in brief.

Day 4
The speakers discussed about ANN - Back Propagation Algorithm and System Identification, Forecasting and Prediction Implementation of Minimization of Rosenberg DE Function, ANN - Back Propagation Algorithm and System Identification, Forecasting and Prediction using MATLAB.

The program aimed at providing detailed learning and hands-on implementation of Machine Learning Algorithms and to expose the Machine Learning techniques to the post-graduate students and faculties.
