Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) organized an online guest lecture titled “Electric Vehicles - A Thermodynamic Perspective” on May 20, 2021. The lecture had about 65 participants from different semesters.
The speaker for the event was Professor. C S Bhaskar Dixit, Director - Fire and Combustion Research Centre, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). Professor Dixit is a mechanical engineering graduate with a doctorate in aerospace engineering in the area of combustion in biomass stoves with two years of postdoctoral research experience from the Indian Institute of Science.
The session started with a brief introduction of the keynote speaker by Professor Kaushik VP, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, FET, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). The topic served the interest of many students and the guest lecture was organized to enhance their knowledge in the area of thermodynamics. The lecture highlighted how the global number of electric vehicles is exponentially rising, due to strong marketing efforts and governmental incentives and this shift of consumers from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles is a shift from petroleum to the primary sources that generate electricity. The objective of this guest lecture was to introduce the audience to the fundamental aspects of different electric vehicle systems and review the thermodynamics of electric vehicle systems.
Post an hour-long knowledgeable speech the session was open for questions and discussion. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Deepak J, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, FET, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). The event also included a feedback session for the participants, and the responses were mostly positive. Overall the event was a success and provided valuable insights into the topic.
