Innovations by the faculty in TLP
The learning in the Institute has always been student centric since the status became deemed
to be university in 2009. Student centric approach has always created a sincerer, vibrant and
enthusiastic participation of students in the learning process as they are allowed to experience,
participate and would inculcate problem solving attitude.
In every classroom, the pace of learning varies from student to student. 10-15% students will
be brilliant and 10% of them will be very weak in grasping the lessons. Others will be mediocre
performers which may also improve gradually and performs well in exams on which the entire
result depends upon. Basically the objective of “Innovations by Faculty in Teaching &
Learning” is to improvise outcome based education which helps to shorten difference between
the curriculum and the industry requirements by bridging the gap, revising the curriculum,
making the teaching more effective and interactive, motivating the students to go for higher
education, research, projects and to develop entrepreneurial skills. The Innovations by the
Faculty in Teaching and Learning were approved and was planned to include in the curriculum
by BOS team with proper analysis which included routine class teaching learning and the
methodologies innovated by faculties. The main contributor to the innovative Teaching
Learning is Multimedia approach, i.e., through Text, Image, Audio and Video apart from other
means of innovative techniques.
The department/institution through BOS, will go through appropriate processes for
implementing innovative practices for effective Teaching & learning. It also takes care that the
methods will be available to the public for reference and reviews through University website.
The flow chart for the same is shown below
The Routine Teaching Learning includes:
- Classroom teaching (Board, Chalk and Talk)
- Labs
- Student Assignment
- Case studies
The flow chart for the same is shown below
For improved Teaching - Learning outcomes, certain initiatives were taken by the faculty
members and BOS through weekly meetings in the Department level and half yearly meetings
with BOS team for peer review. The details regarding the initiatives can be found in the
academic records and in the institute website. In view of this, The Faculties are advised to
participate in faculty development programs, to contribute in research, present in Conferences
and publish in International journals of high repute as they are facilitated with online e-journals,
and also are encouraged to work in funded projects. At the same time, the students are made
to go through
- Choice Based Credit System: In this system, the student will get an opportunity to get a
minor in a different domain or Branch of the same course (Degree) that enhances the
interdisciplinary knowledge increasing the job prospectus.
- Student seminar assignments: Students are asked to present in the seminar to enhance
their expressive vocabulary, to reduce the stage fear and improve personality.
- Industrial visits
- Workshops, Conferences, Distinguished Guest lectures, Tool based learning (SDPs): All
these would create awareness about cutting edge technologies, industry perspectives and
their requirements.
- Placement, Soft skills training and Communication development activities (Personality
development): These activities would improve the personality, enhances the positive
attitude, and boosts up confidence level to face public in a more expressive way.
- Multimedia: PPTs, Audio-Video files, MOODLE, NPTEL (Massive Open Online Courses -
MOOC): These are utilized by students as a reference at certain times.
- Quizzes or MCQs and other activity-based learning: To increase the learning and
answering capabilities that would help appearing in interviews and competitive exams.
- Course mid survey, course end survey, bi monthly feedback through Google forms: These
are helpful to know the issues faced by students and will be addressed immediately.
- Remedial classes: The learning capacity differs from student to student. In order to
address the problems of weak students in academics, remedial classes will be conducted
on every Saturdays.
- Alumni survey: Opinion of Alumni is also considered valuable for enhancing the Teaching
Learning Practice. If any valuable feedback is obtained then it will be implemented
accordingly after the approval from BOS.
- Adherence to Bloom’s Taxonomy during Internal and External examination: All the tests
and exams are conducted with adherence to Bloom’s taxonomy. This helps us to analyze
the level of understanding by students.
- Mentor Mentee sessions: These sessions will be held by Mentors for a group of students
addressing their problems and issues

Activity based learning techniques are as below:
Activity 1: Think-Pair-Share
- State the problem and give short time to work on the problem individually.
- Then form pairs and reconcile/improve solutions.
- Call several individuals or pairs to share responses.
- Provide little more time to think more.
- Individual thinking leads to greater learning.
Activity 2: Model Based Learning
- Define an activity and form teams of 4 members each to build the model
- The team has to prepare CAD model and identify methods for fabrication
- Execute model fabrication using possible fabrication process.
- Present the model and demonstrate its operation
Activity 3: In-Class Teams
- Group up students with a maximum of 4 students and choose recorders
- Give 15 seconds – 3 min to Summarize prior material
- Answer a question
- Start solving the problem
- Think of an example
- Explain a concept
- If the answer is wrong, try to explain the reason for it.
- Brainstorm a list....
Activity 4: Collaborative Learning
- To improve problem solving, creativity and thinking skills in students.
- To understand team-based learning as an approach to collaborative learning and
importance of team work.
- To make students understand complex concepts.
- To develop oral communication skills, Fosters and develops interpersonal
relationships.
- Writing, speaking and/or other forms of self-expression
- Information gathering, such as the use of the library, computer/electronic
resources, and experimentation or observation.
Activity 5: Tool based Learning
- In the tool-based learning, students are exposed to design and analysis
software’s.
- Each and every individual student will be evaluated based on the exercise
assigned to them
- Students will be presenting the design they developed using the modern tools to
their classmates.
