Engineering Clean Water: NITK Expert Charts the Future of Sustainable Resources

Bengaluru, 22nd July 2026 - Addressing one of the most critical infrastructure challenges of the century, the Department of Civil Engineering at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), under the aegis of the Atharva Club, hosted an expert talk on modern water resource management and environmental protection on 22 July 2026. Held at the Core Engineering Block, the session brought together engineering students and faculty to move beyond classroom theory and examine practical, tech-driven solutions for growing resource scarcity.

The session was delivered by Dr Basavaraju Manu, Professor of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal. Rather than framing water management as an abstract ecological issue, Dr Manu presented it as an urgent engineering challenge. He guided the audience through modern advancements in wastewater treatment, real-time water quality monitoring, and emerging techniques for environmental pollution control, illustrating how closed-loop water systems can be integrated into modern urban infrastructure.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in detailed technical discussions, exploring how practical engineering methodologies apply to real-world conservation efforts. The interactive format allowed students to put forward specific queries regarding pollution abatement and resource recovery, gaining direct insights from Dr Manu’s extensive research background.
