Bengaluru, 21st July 2026 - As modern cities strain under rapid expansion, the Department of Civil Engineering at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), under the aegis of the Atharva Club, hosted an expert talk exploring the future of urban mobility on 21 July 2026. Held at the Core Engineering Block, the interactive session brought together 28 engineering students and faculty members to examine how smart technologies and sustainable design are reshaping transit infrastructure.
The session was led by Dr Vivek R. Das, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. Introduced by Dr Dasarathy A. K., Dr Das shifted the focus from traditional road design to the complex demands of smart, sustainable transit networks. Through real-world case studies, he illustrated how civil engineers can tackle urban congestion, optimise traffic flow, and implement sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of expanding metropolitan areas.
Throughout the session, participants explored the practical bridge between classroom theories and large-scale transportation projects. The interactive setting allowed students to ask detailed questions about career pathways, emerging research, and the integration of smart technologies into current civil engineering practices. Convened by Dr Gopalakrishna and coordinated by Dr Raghavendra Prasad H. D., the session successfully grounded complex academic concepts in everyday engineering applications.
As urban centres face growing mobility demands, the talk reinforced the essential role civil engineers play in building resilient, future-ready infrastructure.
