Industry Visit to L&T Technology Services

The visit to the Battery Management System & Maintenance (BMS) research lab was noteworthy, as it allowed the students to gain hands-on knowledge about wireless charging for Electric Vehicles up to 40kV. The students had the opportunity to explore the Battery Management System of a vehicle, which is a critical component in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of EVs.

The students of the 5th and 7th semesters of JAIN (Deemed-To-Be-University) - Electrical and Electronics Engineering department & faculty members Dr.V. Pushparajesh, Dr. Trupti. V N, Dr. Hannah. Jessie Rani R had a valuable learning experience during their visit to L&T Technology Services in Bengaluru, Karnataka on September 19, 2024. Dr. Nikhil, an Associate Engineer at L&T Technology Services, provided insightful information on the current trends in Electric Vehicle (EV) technology.

The visit to the Teardown lab, ECU lab, and 1200V lab provided the students with a unique chance to understand the intricacies of each lab and how they contribute to the overall research and development efforts at L&T Technology Services. The students were able to observe the equipment and facilities available in each lab, which likely gave them a deeper appreciation for the complexity and sophistication of the work being conducted.

During the visit to L&T Technology Services, the following specific aspects of EV technology and battery management systems are likely to be discussed:
 1) Design and development of battery management systems (BMS), power convertors, and motor controls
 2) Thermal management of EV batteries, including active and passive cooling techniques
 3) Development of scalable and modular high-efficiency reference platforms for EV system and component development
 4) Monitoring techniques used to maintain the state of the battery, voltage, current, and ambient temperature
 5) End-to-end services for EVs, including design, development, system integration, and testing across battery management systems, power convertors, and electric motors
 6) The role of EVs in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality
