Workshop on Total Station & Digital Theodolite

Workshop on Total Station & Digital Theodolite

Bengaluru, 19 November 2025: The Atharva Club of the Civil Engineering Department, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), organised a one-day training workshop on the use of Total Station and Digital Theodolite for second-year students. Held at the Surveying Laboratory, the workshop aimed to provide participants with practical exposure to newly introduced advanced surveying instruments. The session aimed to enhance students’ technical understanding, field measurement accuracy, and readiness to apply industry-standard tools in academic and professional settings.

The resource person, Mr Rajkumar from P S Instruments, led the workshop through an insightful and methodical demonstration. He introduced the key features, applications, and operational procedures of both instruments, emphasising precision, calibration, and systematic data collection. Participants were guided through essential steps, including instrument setup, levelling, centring, configuring data settings, and angle measurement techniques. The training also included a live demonstration of recording field readings and extracting survey data for further processing, enabling students to connect theoretical concepts with real-time surveying practices.

The post-lunch hands-on session allowed students to independently operate the Total Station and Digital Theodolite under expert supervision. They practised setting up equipment, performing adjustments, taking accurate readings, and troubleshooting operational challenges. The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged students to clarify doubts, refine their techniques, and develop confidence in handling advanced surveying tools. The session effectively met its objectives by equipping students with foundational practical skills and strengthening their understanding of modern surveying methods. The workshop concluded with an expression of appreciation to the resource person and a group photograph with all participants.
