Industrial Visit to KCRC - Deeksharamabh 2024 Initiative

JU-FET organized an industrial visit to Keeranagere Chawki Rearing Centre (KCRC) from 07th August to 29th August 2024 in batches for the first-year students. A batch of 1280 students accompanied by 30+ faculty members started their journey to explore the core of sericulture.
 
Students gained an understanding of the intricacies involved in silkworm rearing, cocoon harvesting, and silk processing, which highlighted the labour- intensive nature of silk production. The visit emphasized the cultural heritage associated with silk production, highlighting its role in traditional attire and rituals in the region.Students learned about sustainable practices in sericulture, including organic mulberry cultivation and eco-friendly silk production methods. The economic importance of silk production to the local community was underscored by discussions on livelihoods and the global silk market.

The Silkworm Production House College visit was a valuable experience for students as a part of their induction program. It successfully achieved its objectives of educating students about silk production, showcasing the cultural significance of silk, promoting sustainability, and providing hands-on learning opportunities. The visit expanded students' knowledge and fostered an appreciation for the art and science of sericulture.
