Powering Up a New Space for Ideas on Wheels

Bengaluru, 19th August 2026: The Aerospace Seminar Hall at JAIN's Global Campus is usually associated with flight, but on this Wednesday morning it turned its attention to the road. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, inaugurated its IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (IEEE VTS) Student Branch Chapter, in association with IEEE Bangalore Section, giving students a dedicated space to explore electric vehicles, smart mobility and connected transportation.

The session opened with an invocation, followed by the lighting of the lamp by Vice President Sri Ravindra Bhandary and chief guest Sri Suraj S D, Founder and CEO of Decibels Lab. Dr Vasudha Hegde, Head of the EEE Department, welcomed the gathering and spoke about what the new chapter could offer students, from IEEE membership benefits to volunteering opportunities across its activities.

Dr Bhandary urged students to look beyond the classroom, pointing to hackathons, paper presentations and poster competitions at JAIN and elsewhere as ways to sharpen technical skills. Suraj S D followed with a more personal note on career building, telling students that identifying the right priorities early and working towards them systematically matters as much as technical ability. He added that fundamentals and practical skills need to grow together, not one at the expense of the other.

Deans and directors across departments, including Dr Venkadeshwaran K, Dr Anu V R, Dr Beemkumar N and Dr M Arulprakasajothi, were present through the proceedings, reflecting the scale of interest the new chapter has drawn even before its first activity.

For the 75 students and faculty members from the third, fifth and seventh semesters who attended, the morning was less about ribbon cutting and more about what comes next: a chapter built around electric vehicles and intelligent transportation, waiting for its members to start building.
