Civil Engineering Students Gain Practical Insights into Water Treatment during Visit to TK Halli Plant

Bengaluru: The Department of Civil Engineering at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) organised an industrial visit to the TK Halli Water Treatment Plant, Karnataka, on 19 September 2025. The visit included undergraduate and postgraduate students from the B.Tech and M.Tech Civil Engineering programmes, accompanied by four faculty members.

The visit was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications by providing students with first-hand exposure to large-scale water purification systems. During the tour, participants explored the plant’s advanced treatment processes, including sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection, which ensure the continuous supply of potable water to Bengaluru and surrounding regions.

Students were introduced to the facility’s state-of-the-art automation and energy-efficient systems, which enable continuous monitoring of water quality and operational performance. The visit also provided valuable insights into the engineering and environmental challenges associated with maintaining water quality, managing fluctuating demand, and implementing sustainable water management practices. Through discussions with plant engineers and technical experts, students deepened their understanding of collaborative approaches to addressing critical water resource issues.

The visit to TK Halli Water Treatment Plant enhanced students’ appreciation of the technical, operational, and environmental aspects of civil engineering. It reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering experiential learning that connects classroom knowledge with industry practice. The department aims to organise similar industry collaborations to continue enriching the academic and professional growth of its students.
