Bengaluru: Students from the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Bengaluru, have achieved national recognition by securing funding of Rs.15 lakhs under the ‘MSME Idea Hackathon 4.0’ scheme, organised by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India.
The team’s project, titled “Sensor and Computer Vision Integrated Platform,” was selected as one of the best-performing innovations among 468 funded teams across the country. The proposal stood out for its originality, technological merit, and strong potential for societal benefit.
Serving as the incubation and support centre for this initiative, Jain Institute of Technology, Davangere, is providing the necessary technical and infrastructural resources to aid in the project’s successful implementation.
The project is led by Mr. Shanker Reddy as the Principal Investigator (PI), with Ms. Harshitha V and Mr. Pavan Kansagra as Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs), under the mentorship of Dr. Gautham Krishna, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering.
The innovative solution seeks to enhance accessibility and safety in railway stations by designing a sensor-integrated automated platform system that bridges the gap between rail tracks. This system will enable passengers to cross platforms safely without using overbridges, offering particular benefits to individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, children, and passengers carrying heavy luggage.
Commenting on this achievement, Dr. Gautham Krishna stated, “The project represents how engineering innovation can be directed towards real-world accessibility challenges. Our students’ dedication and creativity have demonstrated that technology, when thoughtfully applied, can make public spaces more inclusive and efficient.”
This accomplishment highlights the university’s commitment to fostering innovation, research, and social responsibility among its students. The recognition under the MSME Idea Hackathon 4.0 reinforces JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)’s standing as an institution that nurtures forward-thinking engineers capable of addressing contemporary challenges with practical, impactful solutions.
