Bengaluru, 24 November 2025: The Department of Cybersecurity at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), organised a one-day, thematic digital forensics workshop titled “The Encrypted Truth” on 24 November 2025 at Seminar Hall 002, JAIN Global Campus. The event brought together first-year students from all branches for an immersive, investigative learning experience designed to introduce foundational concepts in cybersecurity and digital forensics.
The workshop began with inaugural addresses from Dr Deepak Sinha, Deputy Director; Dr Kamlesh Tiwari, Head of Department; and Dr Sunanda Das, Programme Head. The event was conceptualised as an interactive, murder mystery–based investigation that positioned students as “digital detectives” tasked with solving a fictional cybercrime.
Structured around a multi-layered narrative, The Encrypted Truth combined storytelling with technical problem-solving. Participants examined encrypted messages, sifted through digital trails, identified red herrings, and analysed case files requiring logical reasoning and collaborative decision-making. Each stage of the storyline revealed new twists, prompting students to apply forensic principles, including evidence identification, preservation, and analysis.
The event aimed to:
Throughout the activity, teams worked under time constraints, decoded clues using digital techniques, and pieced together a complex investigative narrative. The format encouraged active engagement, creative reasoning, and the practical application of cybersecurity concepts.
Speaking about the significance of the event, Dr Kamlesh Tiwari, Head of the Department of Cybersecurity, stated: “The Encrypted Truth was designed to give students an engaging and meaningful introduction to the world of cyber forensics. By combining storytelling with investigative challenges, we aimed to build foundational skills while sparking curiosity about the vast opportunities in cybersecurity. The students’ enthusiasm and teamwork were truly commendable.”
The workshop witnessed strong participation from first-year FET students, who remained fully engaged across all stages of the investigation. Several teams demonstrated exceptional analytical abilities, consistently solving complex puzzles and progressing rapidly through the storyline. The event proved to be both educational and memorable, offering students a dynamic introduction to digital investigation and cybercrime detection.
The Encrypted Truth reinforced JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)'s commitment to innovative, experiential learning in emerging fields such as cybersecurity. Building on the success of this initiative, the Department of Cybersecurity plans to introduce more interactive workshops and advanced training sessions in the forthcoming academic terms.
