Students Gain Hands-On Edge AI and IoT Experience Through Industry-Aligned Training Programme

Students Gain Hands-On Edge AI and IoT Experience Through Industry-Aligned Training Programme

Bengaluru, 13th March 2026: The Department of Information Science and Engineering at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) conducted a five-day Industry-Aligned Skill Development Programme (SDP) on “IoT & Edge AI” from 9th to 13th March 2026, in collaboration with DigiToad Technologies. Designed for B.Tech ISE students, the programme aimed to strengthen practical competencies in emerging domains such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Edge Artificial Intelligence, and embedded machine learning. A total of 48 students participated in the initiative, which combined academic guidance with industry-led training.

The programme was organised under the supervision of Dr K. Manivannan, Professor and Head of the Department, with Dr P. Lokaiah, Associate Professor, serving as the coordinator. Sessions were delivered by Mr Prajwal, Application Engineer at DigiToad Technologies, who led participants through a structured learning pathway covering IoT ecosystems, sensor integration, real-time data acquisition, and machine learning for edge devices.

Hands-on sessions formed a central component of the training, enabling students to work with ARM Cortex architecture, STM32 microcontrollers, and tools such as NanoEdge AI Studio and TensorFlow Lite. Participants developed practical skills in programming sensors, processing real-time data, and implementing anomaly detection models. Advanced sessions focused on deploying machine learning models on microcontrollers, MQTT-based communication, and building intelligent IoT systems capable of real-time decision-making.

Dr K. Manivannan noted that such initiatives help bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and industry expectations by providing exposure to current development tools and workflows. Feedback from participants indicated that the interactive format and applied learning approach enhanced their understanding of real-world applications and improved their readiness for emerging technology roles.

The programme reflects the University’s emphasis on integrating industry collaboration into academic delivery. By equipping students with practical experience in IoT and Edge AI, the initiative contributes to preparing graduates for evolving technological environments and professional challenges in the field of intelligent systems.
