Exploring the Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Sports Nutrition

Department of Food Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) organized an expert talk on the topic “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Sports Nutrition” on June 16, 2021. The event was conducted online and attended by a total of 83 participants. The resource person for the event was Dr. Adarsha Gowda, Assistant Professor, and HOD at Department of Food Processing and Engineering, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. Dr. Adarsha’s expertise and proficiency include the fields of nanotechnology, sports nutrition, and geriatric nutrition. He also has a good command of pharmacokinetic studies as well as various analytical biochemistry techniques.

The session began with an opening remark delivered by Dr. Amar Shankar, HOD - Department of Food Technology, FET, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) and convener of the organizing committee. The brief introduction of the resource person, Dr. Adarsha Gowda was given by Ms. Gayathri Geethika. The speech started with an introduction to the right nutrition diet. Then the guest speaker, Dr. Adarsha Gowda, covered various topics in his presentation like the Indian scenario in sports nutrition, its contribution to the Indian economy, export trends, FDI growth trend, and sports nutrition market. He highlighted the importance of sports nutrition, recovery diet, and business trends in India. He addressed the issue of direct and indirect consumption of supplements by athletes for performance enhancement. He explained the good nutritional strategies and also mentioned the long-term and short-term nutritional requirements for an athlete. He spoke about nutrition requirements for female athletes and the importance of meal planning. He concluded the session with career opportunities in sports nutrition.

The session was informative and helped everyone imbibe knowledge about the entrepreneurship opportunities in sports nutrition. The forum was then open for discussion where many participants asked their questions and received a satisfactory response from the speaker. Dr. Amar Shankar summarized the event in short for better understanding and thanked Dr. Adarsha Gowda for such an informative session. Ms. Sreelekshmi proposed the vote of thanks to everyone present in the session.
