Harohalli, 17th February 2026: Students from the Department of Civil Engineering at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) completed a nine-day extensive survey camp from 9th to 17th February 2026 at Harohalli Hills, Karnataka, as part of their sixth-semester academic curriculum. The field-based programme involved 14 students and was designed to provide practical exposure to surveying techniques and real-time engineering applications under supervised conditions.
The camp was conducted under the coordination of Dr.Meena Y. R., Camp Officer, with guidance from Dr.Dasarathy A. K., Head of the Department, alongside faculty members who oversaw academic and field activities. The initiative aimed to bridge theoretical learning with on-site practice, enabling students to apply classroom knowledge to terrain assessment, data collection, and infrastructure planning processes.
Participants were divided into smaller groups to carry out a series of structured assignments, including a water supply and sanitary project, highway alignment study, new tank project, and a geological survey. These activities required students to engage in measurement, observation, and analysis using contemporary surveying instruments, fostering both technical competence and collaborative problem-solving.
Beyond technical training, the camp emphasised coordination, time management, and decision-making in dynamic outdoor settings. Students also participated in discussions to interpret collected data and relate findings to engineering design considerations.
The survey camp reflects the department’s continued focus on experiential learning within its academic framework. Such initiatives contribute to strengthening students’ readiness for industry engagement and reinforce the role of field-based education in civil engineering training.
