Exploring the Power Behind Supercomputing: CSBS Students Visit Supercomputer Education and Research Centre

Bengaluru, 27th March 2026: Stepping beyond the classroom into one of India’s most advanced research environments, first-year students from the Computer Science and Business Systems (CSBS) programme at JAIN (Deemed-to-be) University experienced the real-world impact of high-performance computing during an academic visit to the Supercomputer Education and Research Centre at Indian Institute of Science on 27th March 2026. The visit was designed to bridge theoretical learning with practical exposure, offering students a closer look at the technologies shaping modern computing.

Organised under the guidance of Programme Head Dr. P. T. Siva Sankar, and supported by faculty coordinators Dr. S. Nagaraj, Dr. Santhosh Kumar S, and Prof. Monika Anand, the visit brought together 48 students eager to explore advanced computing systems.

The programme began with an orientation session that introduced students to the fundamentals of supercomputer architecture, parallel processing, and the wide-ranging applications of high-performance computing. Through expert-led discussions, students were able to connect their academic concepts with real-world use cases, gaining a deeper appreciation of how such systems support complex research and innovation.

A guided tour of the facility offered a rare glimpse into the infrastructure behind supercomputing. Students observed server systems, cooling mechanisms, and the intricate setup required to maintain large-scale computational operations. This hands-on exposure transformed abstract concepts into tangible understanding, reinforcing the scale and precision involved in advanced computing environments.

An interactive session with experts further enriched the experience, providing valuable insights into research opportunities, industry expectations, and essential technical skills. Students engaged actively, gaining clarity on career pathways and the competencies required to thrive in this evolving field.

The visit proved to be both informative and inspiring, strengthening students’ understanding of high-performance computing while encouraging them to pursue deeper learning and research. By connecting academic study with real-world innovation, the experience highlighted the importance of experiential learning in preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital future.
