Civil Engineering Students Explore Wellness and Sustainability through Yoga and Indian Knowledge Systems Session

Bengaluru, 12th February 2026: The Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), conducted a Yoga Wellness Day and Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) programme on 12th February 2026 at Kanchugaranahalli village in Harohalli, Karnataka. The activity was organised by the department’s Atharva Club as part of the Extensive Survey Camp 2026 and involved 14 students from the 2023–2027 batch.

Held in a rural field-learning setting near Kanchugaranahalli Village in the Harohalli region of Bengaluru, the programme aimed to introduce students to the relationship between traditional knowledge, environmental awareness, and personal wellbeing. The session integrated concepts from Indian Knowledge Systems with discussions on sustainability, culture, and health.

The programme featured Mr. Kiran, a yoga teacher and therapist, as the resource person. In his address, he spoke about India’s traditional understanding of land, water, literature, and cultural practices, emphasising how indigenous knowledge can contribute to sustainable resource management and responsible living. His discussion highlighted the relevance of traditional ecological wisdom in addressing contemporary environmental challenges.

Following the talk, Mr. Kiran conducted a practical yoga training session inspired by the teachings of Patanjali. Students practiced foundational yoga postures including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Bhujangasana, and Surya Namaskar. The session also introduced breathing techniques such as Anulom Vilom, Bhramari, and Kapalbhati, followed by a guided meditation exercise.

Participants were introduced to the scientific benefits of yoga practices, including improved cardiovascular health, reduced stress levels, and enhanced mental clarity. The practical session allowed students to experience the connection between physical wellbeing, mental focus, and environmental awareness.

The programme concluded with reflections on how traditional knowledge systems can complement modern education. By combining yoga-based wellness practices with discussions on culture and sustainability, the initiative encouraged students to adopt balanced and mindful lifestyles while recognising the value of indigenous knowledge in contemporary learning environments.
