Industrial Visit to Kerala Enhances Applied Learning for CSBS Students at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)

Kochi, Kerala – 2–4 April 2025

The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems (CSBS), under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), successfully organised a three-day industrial visit for second-year students from 2nd to 4th April 2025. The visit, conducted as part of the academic curriculum for the Even Semester (2024–25), was held in Kochi and Munnar, Kerala, with the primary objective of bridging theoretical learning with real-world industrial practices.

The visit commenced with a detailed tour of Spectrum Softtech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a reputed IT and IT-enabled services firm based in Kochi. Students were introduced to cutting-edge developments in big data analytics, including predictive modelling, sentiment analysis, and fraud detection across sectors like healthcare, finance, and social media. The interactive sessions with industry professionals gave attendees practical exposure to the end-to-end data science pipeline-from data acquisition to model deployment.

Founded in 1998, Spectrum Softtech Solutions is Kerala’s first private-sector IT park and continues to offer a broad portfolio of services, including software development, server administration, medical transcription, and e-commerce solutions. The organisation’s commitment to technological advancement and regional employment was well demonstrated during the student interaction sessions.

In addition to the industrial engagement, the itinerary included cultural and ecological explorations of Kerala, with visits to Fort Kochi Beach, Jewish Synagogue, Munnar, and Marayoor. Students also toured a jaggery production unit and participated in a jeep safari, which enriched their understanding of local industries and culture.

Reflecting on the experience, Dr P.T. Sivasankar, one of the faculty coordinators for the visit, stated:

“This initiative was designed to provide our students with academic and professional enrichment. The exposure to live projects and direct interactions with domain experts have significantly contributed to their learning outcomes and industry readiness.”

Student feedback further attested to the visit’s success, with the majority rating the experience as “Excellent” and noting that it exceeded expectations. Many expressed appreciation for the seamless coordination and the opportunity to connect classroom learning with industry realities.
